Holy **** get my kids out of the water!

Pagi ni aku terbaca 1 article dlm NZ Herald pasal ada close encounter with a shark kat NZ. Berlaku dekat tempat nama Mt. Manganui. Tempat ni selalu la jugak kami p mandi laut. Tak sangka ada plak sharks kat sini.
Sekarang dah start of summer, jadi air laut pun dah panas with that all the fishes come to the top to feed. Nanti aku cerita pasal pegi boat fishing few weeks back. Hopefully x dak apa2...

Abg Zul has a Kingfisher or Kingie in mind! aku x kisah sgt, snapper pun snapper la atau yellow tail, mackerel etc.....

Current playlist & mood Raya

Not much happening over Ramadhan. Just going through and the occasional terawikh at other Malaysian's house here in Hamilton. This year the Malaysians (i.e. Malays/PhD students) seem not to be active in offering their homes as places to do terawikh, can't remember last year. I think I've been to all of them this year, to forge better relations (mengeratkan silaturrahum...)

Raya prayers for Malaysians this year would be done at our place since it's bigger, can accomodate all & can be indoors since the weather is not that great now. Will post on this after the event.  I'm sure you'll all heard about the Christchurch earthquake. Alhamdulillah, we are far from Chch which is in the South Island in Cantebury. They are still having aftershocks until now!

Still haven't done my review for The Final Frontier... It definitely is a grower! Anyway, my playlist (CDs just bought and not mp3, malas nak burn to cd nak dgr dlm keta!) for the moment:

Iron Maiden - TFF
The Used  -  s/t
Daylight Dies - Lost to the Living
Humiliation - Dawn of Warfare and the EP
Cradle of Filth - Vempire
Nasum - Shift

Waiting for some cd's to arrive namely Bolt Thrower's War Master/Fourth Crusade and Satyricon's Nemesis Divina bought from TradeMe

Also just downloaded Weezer's Hurley. Into a few songs so far but fucking excellent!!! Back to oldschool Weezer!! Now on Epitaph! Will get my copy once it's officially released

Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier Mission Edition

Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier.... The new album from these legendary British heavy metallers. I went out with Aiman, my son today to do some errands and went to The Warehouse, a shop in NZ ala Wal Mart etc. Initially saw the IM back catalog on sale at $13. I was thinking of buying BNW but just kept wandering in the music section until I saw the weekly chart, The Final Frontier was at number 2!! The warehouse was selling 2 versions, original and special, but the special ed was not on the shelves!! Dammit

So I went to the counter and to my surprise saw a lot of the special edition cds and other IM merchandise like jugs, pens, key rings and t-shirts.

I managed to get me one of the cd's as above. $34.99. The warehouse are also running an IM competitiion and the main prize is a IM leather bomber jacket! I have to enter.

Just got back home and tired, will do a review later.

Weezer signs to Epitaph and new album due in Sept

Received an email about Weezer in my email a few days ago. Seems like there will be another Weezer album in the works. The album is called Hurley after the Lost star and guess what, the cover is his face!! Tak ada cover lain ka??

Anyway, they've also just signed to one of punks greatest labels and also home to Bad Religion (one of my fav punk bands who happens to be the same age as me!), Epitaph. Apparently they are going back to their rock roots and no more L'il Wayne...

Here's the 1st single off the album, called Memories. Not typical Weezer imho, the chorus has Moogs in the background, but catchy like Weezer

The Big Four live at Event Cinemas Chartwell

Setelah aku tulis entry sebelum ni, aku baru nak beli tiket untuk show ni! Shoot first, ask questions later - atau dlm kes aku, tulis blog dulu, baru nak pergi beli tiket!! Aku pergi website cinema ni, tgk2 aku x bleh nak beli tiket. Aku cuba call cinema, terus masuk ke national call center depa. Cakap kat makcik tu aku nak beli tiket utk show ni malam ni. Dia tgk screen dia (aku rasalaaa) pehtu dia cakap, x bleh order, maybe dah fully booked. Apa kejadahnya fully booked! The big 4 ni ada 2 show, mlm khamis lepas dan malam ni (sabtu), takkan sold out, Shrek/Toy Story/New Moon maybe la, but the big 4???? Baru tadi aku tgk online local news yg show khamis mlm terpaksa cancel.

Last2 aku cakap kat wife, nak pergi cinema, nak carik tiket. Cinema x jauh mana dari umah aku, kurang 10 min drive. Sampai saja, aku tgk screen dia, ada show big 4 pukul 8 mlm. Terus ke kaunter, then dpt beli tiket! $33, mahal dari show 3d! Then blk umah, lepak2 jap.

Pukul 7.45 mlm aku gerak ke cinema. Ada la dekat 20 org pakai baju Metallica/Slayer etc etc kat luar cinema dok lepak2 dan sedang bergerak ke cinema atas. Not bad. Seperti biasa muka aku sorang saja yg aku rasa Asian, yg lain omputih & selit2 jugak Maori

Masuk saja, kat screen ada notice - beware strobe lights in use, maybe cause seizures dan strong language...

Then show pun start - nampak stage dan fans baru nak masuk stage. Lepas tu Abg Mus, Lars dan Scott dok cerita macamana show ni boleh terjadi. Tapi aku tertanya2 mana Slayer? Lepas tu Kerry muncul sorang2, jawab interview. Selang seli dgn fans nak masuk stadium lagi dan interveiew lagi dgn 4 org tadi.

Setelah 30min berlalu baru la Anthrax start main. Aku to be honest, x penah dgr sangat Anthrax selain tajuk album2 dan covernya. Joey Belladona kembali dgn Anthrax. Nampak dah tua dia ni, tapi rambut still panjang. Dgr more like hardcore than thrash pada mulanya, tapi yg lain2 thrash. Not my cuppa tbh. Good crowd interaction. Semua pakai baju Anthrax sama. Bermula dgn Caught in a Mosh dan apparently semua lagu era Joey - ni aku ceduk dari reviewer lain. Semasa lagu Indians Joey pakai topi bulu2 org red indian, mmg kelakar - reviewer lain ckp time ni depa buat tribute to RJ Dio... RIP Backdrop campuran cover Among the living

Giliran Megadeth pula. Time Abg Mus & co mula main, hujan mula turun. Abg Mus dgn baju kemeja putih & arm band. Mula2 nampak mcm dia x syok je kena main. Start dgn Holy Wars. Main terus tanpa bercakap dgn audience. Yang kelakarnya, suara Abg Mus susah nak dgr. Time mcm growl tu ok saja, tapi bila nak nyanyi high notes, macam budak2 tarik! Rock kangkang Malaysia lagi terbaik! Kelakar aku dgr!!! Lagu2 mmg technical - what do you expect. Mmg riffing abis. Tapi another band yg aku kurang dgr masa aku muda2. Dekat last2 baru la Abg Mus ada cakap dgn crowd dan introduce all the band members. Time nak introduce diri sendiri - You know who I am and I know who you are. Another kelakar moment. Closed the set with Peace sells -  lagu ni aku tau... heheheh boleh nyanyi chorus sket2. Backdrop cover Rust in Peace

Then the almighty Slayer! Seeing them in 2006, so aku dah boleh agak macamana depa akan main - straight ahead to the music, not much crowd interaction. Backdrop Slayer hanyalah amp Marshall susun tinggi2! No backdrop of covers! Bermula dgn World Painted Blood. X sangka akan bermain lagu baru trus! Angel of Death, War Ensemble, Mandatory Suicide, Seasons in the Abyss, South of Heaven dan finished with Reign in Blood. South of Heaven selalunya akan main sekali dgn Reign in Blood, after SOH, Kerry, Jeff, Tom semua pusing belakang, tgk amps dan ada long distort sound, then trus masuk RIB. Sebenarnya ada lagi lagu dlm setlist depa tapi aku x igt. Mmg aku byk sing along sbb byk Slayer songs aku tau! Sayangnya depa x main Dead skin mask - intronya dalam Decade of aggression mmg aku boleh hafal! hahahahah Jeff dgn guitar yg ada sticker ala2 Heineken tapi Hanemann dan Kerry mula2 dgn spikes 5 inch, lepas tu bukak, sebab panas kot. Tom mmg mcm besa. Showmanship mmg top notch from these veterans.

Lepas Slayer, ada mcm break sket, selit pasal RJD, H&H patut main skali malam ni, tapi RJD dah RIP, x main. Semua org kat atas tu cerita pengalam dgn RJD - aku sampai sekarang ingat sebut Dai-o, tapi org semua sebut Dee-o!! hahahahahah Scott cerita dia tanya RJD how do you maintain your voice, dia ckp, before a gig, I drink beer & smoke half a joint. Class!!!!

Then headliner start! Metallica!!! Opening dgn Creeping death, For whom etc etc. Lagu baru yg depa main Cyanide, yg lain ilek, semua lagu lama! Fuel pun tarak! What do you expect from Metallica? Top notch performance! Good crowd conversation. James mmg pandai amik hati audience. Fade to black, One (dgn intro helicopter dan fireworks nye), Master of Puppets, Harvester of Sorrow, Nothing else matters dan lain2. Nothing else matters too slow for this, tapi since lagu top, seems ok. Tapi aku rasa depa x utilise the stage to the maximum extent. Lars dok bawah, ada riser rendah saja, tingkat atas kosong, sekali sekala James/Rob naik main kejap atas tu. Kalau Maiden sure guna atas bawah! Time nak last2 tu, all of them gathered on stage but not Haneman/Araya/King to play Am I Evil? tapi aku rasa lagu ni mcm cut short saja? Lepas tu Haneman/Araya keluar utk amik gambar semua. Lagu penutup - Seek and destroy! Brilliant ending to an excellent night. Setlist yg aku tgk kat net mcm lain sket dari apa yg depa main mlm ni - setlist kat Poland aku tgk byk lagi esp setlist Slayer & Metallica, maybe this is edited??? 1 lagi berita dgn Christchurch & Metallica. Mamat yg organise petition tu x dpt beli tiket. Kesian dia.

What do you do when you watch a concert at the cinema? Ada la org dok headbang sket, devil horns sket etc. Org macam x tau nak buat apa, tapi byk org just buat mcm tgk movie biasa. Aku ada la sket2 angguk2 kepala, dan nyanyi bila tau lyrics, esp during Slayer & Metallica. Yang mcm haramnya, time Bells aku nyanyi la, lepas tu mamat sebelah aku dok usha, bg la horns kat dia, then dia sound aku, kalau nak nyanyi p dok jauh sket! WTF dude! Aku ckp la, ni Metallica dan ckp sori kat dia. Macam harem! Aku igt nak dok jauh sket, tapi seat aku dah ok dah, malas nak pindah. You come with your gf to see this and don't know the lyrics, not my fault, bitch. Go and listen to Shihad or Op Shop than see this! Call yourself a fan??? Sorry but this Asian knows more Metallica lyrics than you, so stfu!!

Start pukul 8.30 abis pukul 12 mlm. 1st experience seeing a concert at the cinema. Not bad esp with the big screen & excellent sound system. Will this catch on? Maybe, kena tgk genre aku rasa. Kalau concert dance ka apa x bleh jln sbb org kena dok atas seat x bleh dance dsb. Will I see it again if it comes along again? Might do. All in all, enjoyable night. Wish I was in the pit!

Oh En. Ijau concert ni kompem akan release dlm DVD as James said. So tunggu.......

For Whom The Bells Toll Pt 2

The Big Four Live - Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeath, Slayer

Seperti yang aku cakap dalam posting lepas, tiket utk show tambahan Metallica kat Christchurch went on sale khamis lepas. Sold out dalam masa 5 minit! Seland beberapa jam, siap kluar kat TradeMe (dah x byk dah tiket, byk backlash dari true fans dan mungkin kena ban dgn TradeMe). Byk dari scalper or ulat tiket. Siap masuk The Rock Radio Station - scalpers vs true fans. Mmg kelakar, tapi aku meluat dan benci dgn ulat tiket ni. Tapi apa yg scalper tu ckp, sapa lambat dia terlepas la!!

Anyway, another Metallica related news. Semua fan sure dah tau pasal The Big Four - Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer & Megadeath? Kat Sonisphere festival kat Bulgaria nun bln 6 lepas. Malam ni aku nak p tgk concert ni kat cinema! X sama mcm kat festival betul, tapi at least kat wayang, screen besar, sound system best!

Nanti aku buat review pasal ni

For Whom The Bell Tolls

Metallica adds new Christchurch show

Baru aku dapat tau tadi bila tgk news kat tv. Metallica akan buat 1 show tambahan kat Christchurch pada 22/9 nanti sebab ada petition kat facebook mintak depa main kat south island NZ. Petition tu menarik lebih 11000 orang. Not bad. Kalau peminat kat Malaysia buat macam ni adakah Metallica akam buat show kat Malaysia? Indon dah penah sampai, bila lagi nak mai Malaysia?

Sayangnya aku terlepas beli tiket untuk show kat Auckland. Sold out in 20mins! Kali ni aku mmg teringin sgt nak tgk Metallica, 1st and only time aku tgk depa dulu kat Dublin 2006, time 20th anniversary Master of Puppets bila depa main full set list MOP dan lagu2 lain lagi, termasuk Whiskey in the jar sbg 'penghormatan' kepada lagenda rock Irish - Thin Lizzy.

Read the statement in full:

Christchurch, New Zealand . . .Sometimes You Do Get What You Want!

Show added on September 22
You asked (okay, demanded!) and we heard ya. When we got wind of the massive petitions for us to come to Christchurch, New Zealand we just had to check it out . . . and wow, the number of requests were overwhelming! So, the moral of the story is to be careful what you wish for . . . because 'Tallica is coming to your town on September 22 at CBS Canterbury Arena!

Now here's the catch - our production team scoped it out over the last couple of weeks and no matter how hard we tried to re-configure it, the bottom line is the CBS Canterbury Arena is just not equipped to handle the in the round "Death Magnetic" show that we've been carting around the world on this tour. That's not going to stop us, but we wanted to let you know that we will not be able to bring the full set up that you may have seen in photos on the site or will see if you happen to hit another show in New Zealand or Australia. It's gonna be us and YOU old-school "club style" in an arena making a whole lot of noise together, and that's what counts.

Tickets go on sale July 15 at 9:00 AM with the MyTKT pre-sale starting July 13 at noon. Fan Club members should check www.metclub.com for information about a special pre-sale for them starting on July 9.
Thanks for all the love and support . . . see you in September!

Surrender of Divinity

Surrender of Divinity

Surrender of Divinity, who in the Underground scene have not heard of them before especially in Malaysia? Back in the late 90's I managed to get in touch with the band and got their now infamous demo. Don't know what happened to the demo now, maybe in my cupboard back in Malaysia rotting away? Read on.

Surrender of Divinity are a black fucking metal band from Thailand! To me they're demo is fucking awesome! I trully support this band, I couldn't imagine a band like this from Thailand? I got a chance to see them live in action in Ipoh on the 1st of July 2000 during their tour. They were superb but the crowd support was shit and the performance was marred by a broken guitar and shitty sound! Ekalux wore a fukking large inverted cross!!! Hail SOD!!!

Opening words & history of S.O.D. How are things going on in the S.O.D camp? Tell us about the demo are you satisfied with it ?
* Well , looking back into our retrogressive stage at early '96 , we were at that time a stupid band band cover songs of other BM bands. Until mid-year of that year we were invited to play show in Metal concert here. But since that concert we had the feeling of no-fun and losing one's content of heart. Maybe we didn't have our own songs yet , so it wasn't having much fun playing cover songs Because of this feeling , we started to  write our own songs and introduce them in our 2nd show. There was a good response back from fans at thia time and also a lot of mad-expressions with our songs. Many of them kept asking for our demo but we didn't release immediately. The only cause was our short of money then for the studio-recording of our stuff. And in Thailand , we don't have crazy investors in record labels to dare play with music of BM. However , we still continued to have our shows consecutively but the fans were starting to be boring that they could listen our songs at concert festival only. In late'97 we decided to make a set of Rehearsal tape to sell it for those who really like our music. This was done in a premature test before we could redo it in the future with a better sound-recording. Now we're releasing out our Rehearsal demo of the first set into the market and it's quite well-responded from local audience , we have done this stuffs in a limited amount , just 400 copies and at this time it was sold out. we have reviews of great response from underground zines , in many volumes from many countries. which I guess that we might be satisfied with what happened after we has released this stuff since this is just our first step. What's happen about the band now. we have a new vocalist who name is Ekalux. And he's working with us for our new material. Hopefully it will be released not over 1999.

On the sleeve of the demo, it says In Coffin Recs. Could you tell me more about this label?
* That's just our sub contract.  I still can't tell you more about it with now, Maybe it becoming a distro. soon!!!

The only u/g band from Thailand that I heard of is Donpheebin. Tell us more about the u/g scene in Thailand.
* As a matter of fact , the Thai scene at present is much less appealing than Malaysia or Singapore scenes.  We have lesser Metal bands than others , we have Death and Thrash metal only 4-5 bands. I daresay we're the only Black metal band of Thailand now. Thai scene is just a small scene and with gradual progressive movement. Anyway , I guess it's better to have few good bands than having a lot of junk , trendy band with their desire for money only. Though we don't have many trendy bands but if they're in good quality it's better , right ?

What does S.O.D mean? On your logo there are inverted crosses and 666 on them. Thailand in my opinion is not 'a Christian country' but a Buddhist country. What do you think?
* Oh , good question ! About the name of the band , I think it already have the meaning of itself. So I guess , I shouldn't going to tell you about it means again. Well , you have written most of the truth but not all of it. It's true Christainity is of no great importance to most Thai, but it's not there is no such crazy religion in Thailand. The truth is Christianity is sweeping more grounds in Thai society. Many of Thai are converting to Christ. Those fathers are smart enough to star brainwash local Thai in the provinces first. Those local couldn't read and understand their evil minds. Do you know why they converted religions, you can be baptized from all sins. But you can't do that in Buddhism. Lord Buddha teaches that whatever sin you do you're destined to receive it's outcome and it can't be changed. They're fear of paying back their evil deeds But don't misunderstand me that I'm a  Buddhist. I just give you an example. In the teachings of Buddhism , there're still many things I can't agree with. I personally hate all religions. There're always at its back with a lot of financial benefits with every religions. In addition , we wish to tell you that we're from Thailand it does not mean we'd confine our performance in Thailand only. So even though that Christian does not play many role in Thailand we still must resist it to be out of mankind.

Surrender of Divinity
Listening to your demo reminded me of Marduk era 'Those of the Unlight'. In fact I think 'To reach out for Eternity' sounds like the mentioned track. Is Marduk an inspiration to you?  What are your other Influences?
*  Marduk is one influence to us , it's certainly. But To tell you the truth "Those of the unlight" that's not my favorite CD at all. I'm more into Opus Nocturne , Heaven shall burn... and their latest CD. So I don't think "Those of the unlight"  will be one influenced to our music. Well , I can't specify what band's influence I have received as I do listen a lot of band. I love in Slayer during classic period and I was once crazy with the time of Floridian deathmetal bands such as Death, Obituary, Deicide , Morbid Angel , Monstrosity etc. At present I become a real disciple of Scandinavian BM bands such as . Immortal , Darkthrone , Mayhem , Emperor , Satyricon , Marduk , Dark Fureral etc. So , it's certain that I have got their influences into my work as I mentioned before.

In my opinion, Thailand is famous for Buddhists, tourism and its prostitutes/brothels. Is this true? Is the song 'Paradise's brothel' about the sex industry/brothels in Thailand??
* Also a good question ! No, "Paradise's brothel" that's not what about the sex industry in Thailand , But it's something about a whore bitch who name is Maria.  Do you know her ? She's Jesus's mom!!!! Well , In Thailand we've our natural resources , we've our culture , we've
our ancient places and we've many places of interest but most lustful westerners including some eastern whenever they speck about Thailand they'd keep harping on words related to easiness of Thai woman. This is an inexcusable misunderstanding. Yes , when you have money in your pocket you can buy sleeping-service from Thai girls here. But I thought it was the same everywhere in this world. An those girls they're ready to sacrifice her body with your money. Somehow , I thought the most ugly ones are those who got to pay in order to buy this sexual happiness. I thought it's not fair and very narrow-minded to change all Thai girls are free sex. Better don't trust what you didn't see with your own eyes.

Metal has always been 'for westerners only' because the westerners make the trends, others just follow. How do you feel about this?  Do you think we (Asians) are just following trends set by these guys? When will we, the Eastern u/g scene be a trend setter instead of just trend followers, and western bands imitate Asian metal bands?
* Just  following ? Maybe so , But who care about this word! I admit that our band has received influence from Norwegian and Swedish bands , on music topics or image.  But everyone must accept the truth that BM isn't a music originated in Asia. Is that means we Asian shouldn't play metal ? Maybe not.  When we're fond of playing this music style which isn't our identical we must try to create and try to bring their music into our identical pattern. Now we're trying to put the feeling of Thai traditional in mixture with BM music. And I hope everyone will find something new and it won't just following.

In your bio, you said you've done several gigs with other metal bands in Bangkok. How was the reaction?
* You can find the answer about that in the first question

Promote your band and your closing words
* Thanks for your interview and for your support to our band. Sorry for my horrible English ! Good luck to your webzine! Keep up the dark work ! Hails to all readers , if you think you have the spiritual understanding of underground you may contact us.  Bands and demo traders are welcome , Zines just ask for our promo package! Weezer - Raditude

Weezer - Raditude

Weezer are by far my favourite band of all time. Starting with the 'Blue' album back in 1994 I was hooked on the band's form of 'Geek Rock', stemming from the glasses that Rivers, the singer wears and also the lyrical themes of their early records.I have all their cd's, the only band that I have an almost complete discography (albums only..) - I'm missing 'The Lion and the Witch' cd only. My other collection that comes close is Misery Index's discography which I have only started to collect.

Raditude are their 7th studio album which was released in October 2009 and it has taken me this long to review it. The album title was suggested by a friend of Rivers' who also happens to be an actor by the name of Rainn Wilson. The last album before this was released in 2008 and I haven't even had time to absorb that yet and out comes this new album. For one the album title seems a bit, I don't know, childish or immature.

The 1st track off this album "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" sounds a bit like songs from back in the 50-60's and is the 1st single from the album. A good opener to the album. The rest of the songs are catchy like most Weezer songs are but the lyrical themes are not what you expect from Weezer - "I'm your daddy", "The Girl Got Hot", "In the Mall" etc deal more with what teenagers would go through than what men in their 40s would do. If you hear the songs on their own and don't know it was Weezer, you will like them or if you're a 1st time listener, most likely you will like them. But for 'old' Weezer fans, it just doesn't feel right and some what creepy (I'm your daddy? In the mall?) to think that men in their 40s to sing about this. There is also a song co written with The All American Rejects vocalist called "Put Me Back Together" which I'm surprised about and a song which was done earlier by Sugar Ray called "Love is the Answer" with some sitar/indian parts to it.

"Can't stop partying" is my favourite song off this album. Not typical Weezer in that there is actual rapping and singing about jewels, bitches and the like - like all hip hop songs are as well as rapping by Lil Wayne none the less with expletives which were unheard of in the history of Weezer! Catchy as hell! You gotta hear it and just blank out the fact that it is a Weezer song - or am I secretly liking hip hop?? Fuck no! Fuck hip hop hehehehe

Weezer are kind of going on a tangent from when they 1st started out - newer material are more "fun" and "popular" - on "Pork and Beans" on the "red" album he talks about working with Timbaland can make them top of the charts. I guess they maybe want to be more popular now and target a younger/teenage audience with the new material, but I'm still a sucker for them as Rivers does make catchy songs which stick in your head.

3.5/5

NILE / HATE ETERNAL LIVE IN ADELAIDE 26 MAY 2010.

By: Lutfie

It was a fairly cold autumn day when Nile and Hate Eternal were scheduled to play at Fowlers Live, the venue that has always been sheltering a lot of international shows in Adelaide. It is a shitty venue for its acoustics but I shouldn’t be complaining, as I thought without Fowlers, Adelaide could have been a shit hole for international metal acts who tour in Australia.

I was pretty busy that day with uni so I only got to come at door by around 7.20pm after some decent yiros for dinner. Support band for this show were One Step Beyond (at last, some decent band apart from crappy hardcore kids). Honestly that was the time I first heard them and I admit I liked them. One Step Beyond play rock’n roll/grind/jazz style and they have really catchy tunes, reminded me of Blood Duster who on their later releases, being more rock’n roll and less grindy. The guitarist seemed like a guy I always see around Adelaide city too. All in all, they rocked the crowd that night. Definitely looking forward to coming to their gigs in future.

Next up were Hate Eternal. Erik Rutan was probably infamous for his roles in the world of death metal. Known as album producer, death metal guitar god, and Morbid Angel’s ex-guitarist for the infamous Domination, Erik Rutan also fronts Hate Eternal which in my opinion, not his best use of talent. Honestly, Hate Eternal style is REALLY not my cup of tea of death metal. Way too generic and noisy on both records and live. Perhaps I was way too up front during their set, resulting blowing sound from Erik’s amps. Anyway, it seemed performing artists do all the setup shit themselves, no crew what so ever. Erik came up the stage with his box of pedals and effects which were associated to his Ironbird.

HATE ETERNAL

ERIK RUTAN IN HATEMODE

Hate eternal started off pretty early than the allocated time frame (about 10 minutes). With 3 piece band this time, Erik, Jade, and a session bassist blasted through their set relentlessly. The drummer was a crazy dude. He made jokes while he was setting up his kit and had hilarious shoutings with the kids in the crowd. This guy can seriously kill. He had a good skill at fast-blasting drummings, which pretty much defines Hate Eternal.

The session bassist was pretty sick individually. I honestly don't know who the fuck he is or which band he was picked out from to cover up this show for Erik. I wish he actually played in a better death metal and got me nuts.

OKAYY..Actually, Hate Eternal were complete boredom. Shit boredom. I wish I could refund half my money for this show. Erik Rutan did not impress me at all other than noisy, dropping tremolo, hate-driven vocals and lifeless stage presence. I kept running within the crowd to find the best spot to enjoy them but failed miserably. Their set went fairly long (an hour of complete ear torture) and some of their fan probably happy with their set and total so called brutality presented. But definitely not entertaining for me.

ERIK RUTAN AGAIN

I tried to get full view of all band members

Up next were NILE. Karl Sanders was the first person to got on stage to set his guitar. This time, it was my first time to see such a delicate setting for a live performance that used digital effects etc. Karl had a 19” lcd plugged in front of his spot that was connected to his laptop(at the back, near amp) now that was a very digitized setting. Compared to Erik’s setting, Karl used pretty much all USB connected gears. On the other hand, other members seemed to have normal setting to their gears, George Kollias was my main focus, since I am so into drumming he had fairly decent setting like the previous drummer (Hate Eternal drummer) I thought he borrowed Jade’s cymbals, judging by seeing Jade having to opened up his cymbal trunk after packing them down. Honestly, I did not expect much from Kollias other than to play a drum solo in the middle of Nile’s set. But that seemed to no avail.

Karl Sander setting up his lcd for tuner/effects etc.All by himself.

As I predicted, Nile started off their set with ‘Kafir’. Blasphemous song indeed, but I shall not elaborate on that. Heavy and somehow sounded better than the cd quality. As I was standing right in front of Karl, I can hear his guitar sounded so sharp and precise. So did Dallas’ guitar whose sounded so heavy. I should not berate much on sound quality of this show as all shows that I went to were promising in terms of acoustics. No wonder some songs just sounded A LOT BETTER live than on their records. Thanks to the pro sound mixer.

DALLAS-That is a sweet DRI shirt

Talking about setlist, they played quite a number of songs from the latest album ‘For Whom the God Detests’ which were awesome. The latest album just kills and no bullshit Egyptian traditional soundtrack done to fill up 13 tracks. There were also songs from the infamous Catacombs and Black Seeds and Nile’s traditional closing song was definitely Black Seed of Veangeance.

KARL SANDERS-Wooppps unintentionally took this picture with the mic stand before him.

Apart from the awesome-ness of the performance, I must highlight the scene where Karl spotted a guy who kept filming Nile’s set and snatched his iPhone away, put it on the spot he was standing. It was hilarious. Clearly Karl did not like his picture or video being taken (maybe due to weight problem? HAHA) during his performance. Karl ended up returning back the guy’s iPhone after swiping it to his guitar. It was cool of him that he did not crush that phone, which I expected he would have done. As a result to that event, I refrained myself from taking too many photos during Nile’s set, since I had taken a few beforehand for this review anyway.

NILE - In action

Nile set went on about an hour and a half. It was a really great set by Nile and it was worth my money spent to see them, unlike the Heh, Etanol. Grabbed myself their tour shirt and 2 more for other Malaysian friends who ordered it through me. All in all, Nile really rocked up the night!

p/s: i got Karl's pick too :)

Groinchurn - South African Grind

It's been a while since I posted any old interviews that was salvaged from Thanatopsis at Geocities.

This interview was done for Thanatopsis zine issue #3 in 1996. I had the opportunity to meet them in London in the late 90's but unable to go since I was doing my A-levels at the time.

Recently I managed to get their SIXTIMESNINE cd courtesy of Shah of Random zine. Great to have the cd since they only gave me a tape copy last time round. Will try and do a review on it soon. Don't know if the address is still valid, but worth a try??

Enjoy:

GROINCHURN is one of the most promising grind band ever to emerge from the South African scene. Groinchurn began it's grinding assault of well crafted noise in early 1994. The band was formed by Mark Chapman and Sergio Christina of SEPSIS. Just before the recording of the first demo, HUMAN FILTH, Christo of DESECRATOR joined on vocals and bass.
The band went on to release a 2nd demo, EVERY DOG HAS IT'S DECAY, which has to date sold around 800 copies worldwide. Next was a 20 min. spot on the FOUR WAYS TO MISERY CD on MMI RECORDS (Germany) followed by the release of 2 split 7" EP's : one with CAPTAIN THREE LEG on FUDGEWORTHY RECORDS (USA); and one with WOYCZECH on PAINART RECORDS (Germany). 2 live split tapes were also released: one with MINDFART on ABNORMAL TAPES (Slovenia); and one with NECROSE on AXIOMA PRODUCTIONS (Holland).
The latest offering, SIXTIMESNINE, is definitely the best and strongest material to date, featuring 13 awesome tracks of relentless and experimental grind with an original edge. Get it or die. I've heard it, sounds really fuckin' great man!!
For order or info:
Groinchurn, P.O. Box 4478, Vereeniging, 1930, SOUTH AFRICA. Or get it from Marbil Entertainment, P.O.Box 1264, Germiston, 1400, SOUTH AFRICA. Fax:27-11-626-1197.
Enough shit here, let's get on with the interview(answered by Sergio):

  • What's the latest news from Groinchurn? Any changes?
The lineup is still the same as always and the music is still fast and all that. Latest news is that we've just released our debut album and we're chiffed with it!! It was released at the end of Feb. the title being "SIXTIMESNINE". It is about 24-25 min. long and has 13 songs! Propackaging and production and all that.

  • Isn't Groinchurn members of Sepsis and Desecrator? What happened to the bands?
Yes, me and Mark were in Sepsis and Christo was in Desecrator. Both bands broke up ages ago.

  • Tell something about your demos.I heard you're working with MMI Recs for a CD?
Human Filth was our first demo. We recorded it in a tiny studio that usually deals with soft pop and gospel shit! We just weren't allowed to swear blaspheme and Christo had to sort of mumble swear words in the lyrics!! It cost us about 300 buxx or so to record and it was recorded in about 3 hours or so!! We recorded it in March 1994. It had 7 trax on it as was probably about 15 min. long. The 2nd-Every dog... was recorded in a professional studio and cost us a lot more that 300 buxx to record! It had 14 trax on and obviously had better sound. We recorded it in later 1994 because Human Filth sparked off local and overseas interest.
We did work with MMI Recs and were featured along with 3 other bands (NYCTOPHOBIC, CAESAREAN SECTION, WINTER OF DISCONTENT) on a comp. CD called 4 Ways to Misery. We were supposed to do a CD with MMI, but the label stopped, which is a damn shame 'coz MMI was a good label! Well after that we did a couple of split 7"s and stuff. Namely a split with Captain 3 Leg and a split with WOYCZECH. Soon we're going to bring out our Coughin 7" and Totally Fucking Live 7".

  • Now it seems the U/G scene is full of Punk/HC and Black metal bands, it seems that the two are considered as trends. Do you agree? Will Groinchurn turn to play one of these genres?
Black Metal and HC/punk seems to be big in our U/G now, I guess that's what's getting the most support now- whether its good or bad-I don't know. I reckon the important thing is that the bands in the U/G, whatever genre they belong to must be into what they're doing, i.e. they must be real, otherwise the U/G will be full of bands that should be in the mainstream, and that would obviously be bad! As for us doing Black Metal-Nah! As for HC-we've been doing that since we started, Grind is old HC taken a couple of steps further. Lyrically, Grind is similiar to HC and all that well I think so anyway!!

  • Have you guys done any gigs/tours before? How was the response? Is it hard to organize shows there?
Yes, we've played loads of gigs and we've done mini tours around the country. The response to the gigs goes up and down, sometimes it's goddamned chaos. It's not that hard to get gigs here now, say about 8 months ago to a year ago it was very difficult to get gigs, but now it seems to be picking up again. We're playing regularly now.

  • Have you heard the new Napalm Death LP's? Do you think they're the grind godz they were? How about Agathocles, Carcass and Brutal Truth?
ND has definitely changed, I certainly wouldn't call it grind anymore. I like "Fear,Emptiness.." but the new one is off. Their music isn't intense anymore. I haven't heard Agathocles' latest stuff yet, but I trust its still brutal. Carcass are now a bloody rock n' roll band to me, I won't even bother taping the latest album-no thanx! Brutal Truth can't be accused of wimping, I must say, they're still really intense. They're cool because "Need to Control" is more extreme than "Extreme Conditions..", and I'm looking forward to hearing the new one, whichI will soon!

  • How's the scene in S. Africa now? Name some bands + zines.
The scene here is definitely expanding. There's a bunch of new bands out. People like Philantrophy, Gutted Remains, Mayirism (don't know if I spelt it right), Sex Wax, Gaadacanal Dairy, Dieversions and a bunch of others whose names I can't think of right now! Zines-really too many.

  • Do you think your music can influence people? What are they about? Is the band a way to voice out your anger, depression + hatred to someone/thing?
I don't know if our music influences people. There's not many ways of telling. If it does, I hope its positively. The lyricsare about all sorts of things, personal conflicts, social things, hypocrisy and shit like that. The music is based on anger and frustration with situations that affect people day in and day out.

  • Your opinion about:
    1.Neo Nazis,
    2.Racists,
    3.Wars

Neo Nazis are fucking sick and they are amazingly stupid creatures-"More hair than Brains" as the saying goes. Everyone hates someone, there's a little racist in all of us I reckon, or at least all of us have what it takes to hate someone because they're not the same. Racism is basically just another social disease kinda thing. Wars make no sense obviously. The war is a tool to satisfy greed, power or any other sick thing that reflects what mankind really is-stupid as hell!

  • Do you know any bands/zines in these regions?
I know of a handful of bands and zines and we are in contact with a few

  • You go into a store to buy a CD. Which one will get your attention: good coverart, mostly popular bands' new material or a new bands' name you really like?
Well good coverart will first get my attention obviously and then I'll go for what I knowor what I've heard about. I'm not really bothered if the band is new or popular or whatever, I just get what I'm familiar with.

  • Promote your merchandise.
Well, our CD is available now :SIXTIMESNINE it costs $15 postage paid worldwide.
    We're also selling 2 split 7"s :
    GROINCHURN/CAPTAIN 3 LEG for $6
    GROINCHURN/WOYCZECH for $6
    In the future :

    And that's it!

  • Your closing words.
Thank you Noorwan for the interview, we appreciate your support!! Good Luck. As for the readers, if you're interested in us (info, merchandise or anything else) just right to :

Since this interview they've released some new stuff, which I forgot now!! This intie was for our 3rd issue, but it came late so, I decided to put it here. They gave me pix but I don't have a scanner (shit!!). Oh well, hope you enjoyed the intie.

    He's not gonna make it

Aku ada cakap dalam entry lepas aku nak rajin sket update blog, tapi besa la, x sampai jugak hajat. Bukan apa, sibuk dgn kerja, family & life - real life stuff. Jadi x jugak update blog. Oh lagi 1, kami ada beli Nintendo Wii, tu lagi 1 sbb aku x update blog. Dok main tennis in Wii Sports dan Madworld saja

Aku mmg igt nak buat review gig Decapitated, tapi hari ni aku update pasal kerja.

Weekend ni aku kerja (termasuk time aku tulis entry ni). Aku kalau kerja weekend, kena ada kat hospital dari pukul 8 pagi sampai 12 tgh hari, lepas tu aku kira 'on call back'. Maksudnya, kalau aku x sibuk aku boleh balik. Tapi selalunya kerja/ward round takkan abis pukul 12, selalu about 1-2pm baru abis. Aku kerja weekend, sekali dalam 3 bulan.

Kalau weekend aku kena jaga the whole ward, ward 25, oncology ward dan kalau ada Emergency Dept/GP referral. Jadi kena la jaga patients haematology (bab cancer darah - leukemia/lymphoma etc), medical oncology (chemo), radiation oncology (mmg specialty aku) dan palliative care - patients yg ada incurable cancer dan not long for this world....

Kelmarin, hari sabtu aku balik pukul 4.30 ptg sbb sabtu lagi sibuk dgn hari pertama weekend dan patient aku haram x kenal pun sebab byk patient haematology dan medical oncology yg aku mmg x cover pada hari kerja biasa. Selalunya patients haematology la yg paling aku malas nak jaga sbb depa ni yg slalu sakit! Haemoglobin 60, platelet 5, neutrophils 0.1 etc etc. pening kepala aku.

Tgk2 dia pun sibuk dgn patients med. onc dia. Aku pun kena la ikut haematologist ni.

Hari berjalan mcm besa, not too bad. Dekat pukul 12 aku dapat page dari ED. Ada patient ni datang dgn batuk darah, ada history of metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (cancer hati). Hb (blood count) ok, known to palliative care. Can you come and see him?

Sebelum jumpa, aku review CT scan dia - Masha Allah, penuh paru2 dia dgn bintik2 cancer. Patut dok batuk darah. Ada jumpa palliative care team 18/5. Plan for some trial drug. Baru start oral chemo khamis lepas.

Pergi la jumpa patient ni. Kesian aku tgk. Muda lagi, badan dan muka penuh macam jerawat, most likely chemo related ulcers aku pikir, sbb start lepas chemo. Batuk x berenti patient ni. Kesian aku tgk, setiap kali batuk, mesti kluar blood clot dan kemudian fresh red blood. Aku buat exam, lungs sound so crap - crepitations everywhere.

Aku dok pikir apa aku nak buat. Aku bagi dia vitamin K sket, sbb INR dia 1.5. Kot2 sbb tu ka dia dok batuk darah. Pehtu aku pikir, patut aku call respiratory physician ke dak (Dr pakar paru2) nak arrange bronchoscopy kot2 dia bleh stop bleeding.

Aku tgk CT scan dia balik. Haram, camna nak stop bleeding! Byk sgt cancer dalam lungs. Aku pikir, patient ni akan mati x lama lagi ni. I have a gut feeling dan aku dah x tau nak buat apa dah...

Last2 aku pergi jumpa dia blk dgn HS aku, aku cakap kat dia "This is serious, I don't think you'll make it. I think you might die soon" Bini dia dah mula mata berair. Patient ni suh bini dia panggil family masuk. Org asli ni, kalau masuk spital, family members yg ramai akan ikut skali! Ahhhh sudah....

Dalam cubicle kecik ED tu, penuh dgn anak2, bini, sedara patient ni, HS & aku yg mcm dah dikepung dgn sedara mara. Gulp! So intimidating, gelabah aku, betui ka mamat ni nak mati ni?? What if I'm wrong?

Aku mula buka mulut, cerita balik cakap aku rasa batuk darah ni sbb cancer dah spread ke lungs and I don't think he'll make it. Kakak pt tu tanya - "What do you mean?" He's going to die aku cakap. Tapi aku x tau la brapa lama lagi dia akan ada kat dunia ni. Hanya Tuhan saja yg Maha Mengetahui... Abis, semua org dah mula nak nangis.... Betui ka mamat ni nak mati???? We'll get him to the ward as soon as.... Aku teruskan tugas lain mcm besa. tapi dok terpikir sorang2, betui ka mamat ni nak mati???

Selang 1 jam, sampai pt ni kat ward. Pergi tgk dia. Dia ckp batuk ok sket, tapi bg aku mcm sama saja. Aku bagi dia ubat lain kot2 batuk darah tu boleh clear sket dan ubat nak bg dia relax and hopefully not cough. Lepas tu aku pun balik....

Perasaan aku bercampur. Sedih sbb ramalan aku rupanya menjadi kenyataan dan dok terbayang muka sedara pt tadi kat ED. Selalunya aku x penah cakap kat patient kata dia akan mati x lama lagi, ni la malam pertama aku cakap mcm ni kat pt. Aku cerita kat Fid, it was expected but didn't think it was that soon....

Hari ni, funeral home mintak aku buat death certificate. Aku pun buat la. Place of death: Back of St John's Ambulance....

    So it is done....

     Gambar cilok dari blog bini

Exam aku dah abis semalam! Syok dah abis exam, tapi x tau la result macamana nanti.

Konsert Double Trouble 1 May 2010, Bukit Kiara Equestrian Park Indoor Arena..

hey guys, greeting to all rockers, metalheads, music lovers.. aku x pnh tulis blog2 ni.. tp skadar ingin berkongsi experience dan membantu kwn baik aku En. Doc Noorwan yg x sudah2 dgn exam dia (hang ni dah jd doktor pun kena amik exam lg, heran aku.. aku takot jd gila jaa nanti).. ahahaha..

1st May 2010, berlangsungnya satu konsert yg so much anticipated involving 2 of the most influential rock bands in Malaysia together in a series of concert which they had started 17 years ago. Needless explanation in the region, there's this legendary, Search + the bad boys in local rock scene, Wings sharing same stage in the Bukit Kiara Indoor Arena. Though I was arriving a bit late (half hour late to be precise) due to me myself and my band were performing in this 1 small gig in Kajang, I was still very much spirited to catch this history in the making. Just after finishing our last song in our own gig, I drove my friend's girlfriend's car to Bukit Kiara with an average speed mounted to 120km/h (finished double pedalling on stage, put the leg on the accelerator pedal.. ahaha).

We arrive at Bukit Kiara around 9.30pm where all the 4 lanes highway's already full with cars taking the spaces for parking along the road, leaving only the last right lane for motorist to use. Since we were late ourself, we just follow others and park on 3rd lane of the highway, assuming that the venue is just few meters further up. Well, it was not, we actually walked for 500meter to reach the venue. Along the walking, we noticed some people were heading back in frustration. (some of them were the band members from Butcher Bastard - Metal band from Penang, saying to us that its packed like hell there, cant see anything). We, nevertheless continue to reach the venue and arriving at the venue, it is totally packed full as hell. It is a horrible scene to see, yet it is how the great rock concert always looks like. The indoor arena were full of crowd (I think its more than 20,000 people inside the arena) , u cant even see its wall, with people in every corner/entrance pushing/struggling to make their way in, plus there's people fainted inside even have to be brought up by the crowd to make the way out, it looks like the guy/girl is doing crowd surfing/slamming/stage diving. It is frightening (the Indoor Arena is a 10,000 capacity, maybe 15,000 the most).

We intially try to make it on the main entrance on left side of the arena, the bands just finishing the double drum's solo with Yazid (Search) and Black (wings) on their sets. The drums solo were well composed. There's a part they were going at each other and there's also part they were playing simultanously at the same drum pattern and speed. It was awesome. Yet, its not as awesome as Kid and Amy suddenly appeared on stage respectively with Kid playing the solo's of Isabella, Search most notably much anticipated Love Slow Rock Song. Just by hearing the solo, the crowd went crazy with the more than 20,000 crowd singing along with amy, u cant even hear amy's voice. At the spot I'm standing people were chanting Amy's name just to show their appreciation to their hero.

After Isabella, Search continue with few more songs, their usual anthem's like Isi dan Kulit, Serigala Segalanya etc. But no PAWANA, their main anthem song, a must in their every show, I wonder why.. hmm.. And yet its not effected the full crowds as Awie the appeared on stage with Joe and people went crazy again plus some laughter as Awie as usual delivering some jokes as he make fool of himself and sometime make jokes on Amy. The Duo then sparing each other with some medley from both band's legendary song such as Gadisku, Rozana, Sejati, Rashidah Utama, Syakila etc. The best part is that both lead guitarist, both bassist and both drummer were playing exactly the same which u can even notice the different in their sound with only Din playing as a 2nd guitar. But I do notice that Awie singing Search song's is actually better than Amy singing Wings song (Well, thats arguably my personal view.. no disrespect to Amy.. hehehe..) And I do notice that Awie's voice is back at its best. He's low tone were as good as ever and his high pitch, screams are back at their best. (Awie in this recent few years were struggling to get back his 80's voice sound). The 9 rockers finish the session with Wings R N R Lu Punya Suka, with at the end of the song, Awie and Amy again went for a high pitching scream at each others delighting much for the crowd who just scream in satisfaction. They then put a close to the show with Search - Pasti 15 mins to midnite.

Anyway, for me personally, the highlight of the whole concert is the guitar solo part. The Stage were set black and dark, then there's this magnificent sound leaving the crowd in puzzle. Though all die hard followers of Search would already know that was Kid at work, the presentation is for me were really something. Then there's a spotlight shoot to the right side of the stage (guess what?? it is KID with his gitar.. ahahaha) Kid played a very nice guitar presentation that nite confirming that he is one of the best guitarist in Malaysia. Its been a long time to see Kid at his best although he did save the last Search Awan Biru Concert last year with his astonishing sound. Then to add it up, Joe appeared with his solo and the Duo then played a special composed solo with both guitarist exchanged some skills through out the session. It was AWESOME!!

To sums it up, the concert were brilliant, much more brilliant compared to the previous Search solo concert - Awan Biru. This time the sound system's were great, the stage, the lighting and of course this time u got Wings together on the bill, its nothing much to complaint about. Anyhow, the selection of the venue is actually not really satisfied me (the Awan Biru were held at the padang area, which can hold up more people and got some space to catch a breather). They should pick the bigger venue at 1st place. They already announced that they will be in Stadium Larkin next month as their next stop, I hope and I think all die hard fans of both bands were hoping that this is just a starting for The Double Trouble Series. Hope there will be another concert in KL in a bigger venue with bigger sponsorship pouring in. Anyhow, the concert which held without any sponsorship from big corporates has already put ashamed to another 2 sponsored live concert, TM - Ungu in Bkt Jalil and Celcom - Tokio Hotel in OU which held also on the same date. Both concert only managed to get not more than 5,000 crowds. Yeah, serve them right.. hahaha.. I still wonder why these rockers always got the double standard until now.. hmm..

How to recover a stuck cd or dvd?

How to recover a stuck cd or dvd? on Instructables.com

Malas betui aku nak study, exam jumaat depan.

Baru ujung minggu lepas kami beli kat pharmacy. Boleh tahan mahal gak benda ni! 100g = $7.60 NZD. 50g dlm $5 mcm tu. Tapi benda ni tahan lama....

Cakap pasal vaseline ni aku teringat baru teringat plak time aku amik SPM dahulu pada tahun 1996. Ada kawan aku nama Mat Zai. Time tu exam bio practical. Ada la specimen sotong dan a few others invertebrates kot. Tepi tu ada vaseline sket, tak igt aku tujuan asal sebenarnya. Yg kelakarnya, dia p letak vaseline kat specimen2 tu! Lawak betui. Kalau ada geng SPM 96 yg igt pasal exam bio ni, cuba cerita kat aku vaseline tu buat apa sebenarnya dalam exam tu

Sorry melalut dari tajuk entry plak. Teringat kat Mat Zai & kisah vaselinenya.

Anyway, semlm aku try kat DVD Wiggles Aiman. Aiman kalau dgn cd/dvd abis calar balar. Dah la dvd tu beli kat Sydney thn lepas. Aku cuba play, ada jugak sangkut, tapi aku rasa sbb mcm ada kesan Aiman tikam dgn pen kot.

Malam tadi aku cuba pulak dgn dvd Thomas the tank engine . Mula2 sangkut jugak! Lepas tu baca balik, dia cakap go along the inner circle. Buat skali lagi, kalau nak lap plak, kena from inner to outer.

Lepas tu masuk balik dlm dvd player, terus fwd ke scene 5 - tak sangkut!! fwd/rwd semua ok! YEAHHHHH!

    (Vaseline/petroleum jelly + scratched cd/dvd ) - excess vaseline = working cd/dvd = jimat $

    Siap ada math equation tu!

Kalau sapa2 ada cd/dvd calar boleh la cuba cara begini. Semoga mujarab....

LOVE METAL made in London Astoria (Winter 2007)

Hello to everybody who's reading this review. I ve never done this type of work since the day Thanatopsis Zine was defunct. Even back at that time, I was damn too lazy (still am) to contribute even Noorwan Warlock was fed up .. Still, the Thanatopsis days were quite sweet for both us as budak2 nak kenal dunia musik underground and we were once called by Wan Warlock's mom as 'The Underground Publisher' ..Seriously? Yes, of course...Enough about those sweet memories, I would like to present you guys with my backdated review as the event was actually in December 2007. So, enjoy or if u just found it sucks just read it halfway okay..?
What come across your mind upon the word Love Metal.? I bet, the Finnish band fronted by a skinny 'Mat Fit' guy called His Infernal Majesty or H.I.M. Im not an avid fan of them, though i find some of their songs great. The reason I went to see them was due to the fact that my wife is (maybe was) an avid fan of Vallo and HIM of course and the way we managed to get into the concert was quite funny as well. I got the ticket from the 'Ulat Tiket' (..he he he bukan kt sini saja ada especially time raya, dekat konsert HIM di tengah-tengah London pun ada.). Before anything, I went to London with my wife, around 2 years ago. It was our dream to visit the first world country..and UK to be specific is the best place. Sebelum ni dok tengok gambar-gambar Wan Warlock saja kat London plus tons of fantastic pictures of mighty Emperor, Morbid Angel, Nile, Immortal shows. To be honest Napalm Death first show in KL around year 2001 if Im not mistaken was the last gig I attended. I almost forgot all the details pertaining to this event but Ill try my best though.

We went to the venue the day before and we saw the fans already lined up to enter venue even at 11 a.m. (The show starts at 6 p.m. and there were two shows on the 12th and 13th of December 2007 and we went to the 13th show). We were quite nervous upon entering the venue (The Famous 'Astoria London'). My friend Fathi who was working in London that time laughed me off as he told me that Astoria is the place for gays. Who cares anyway as long as I can see the band. In fact many legendary bands had performed here. We had some security check right at the door and were cleared despite of the tasty orange juice being seized..yes Orange Juice kat sana adalah Orange Juice dgn kata sebenar (takdak tipu2 tmbh perisa mcm kita kat sini).

So when we were inside it's already full house and this Emo band or anything 'yang swaktu dengannya ' called Kill Hannah were performing. One thing I noticed there were only 15 to 20 % males and the the rest were females. They were kind of suck n I felt quite gelii to watch them, so we just wait for HIM.

When the time finally came, HIM delivered it the way they do. Vallo's voice was remarkably stunning (sebijik sejibik) and gals love him (due to the fact that lingeries n teddy bears were thrown at him). Most of the numbers performed that night was from Venus Doom and I was not familiar with any of those songs since Im into old HIM. I enjoyed the show though when they performed Wicked Game (their version of course), Funeral of heart, plus many songs from their first three albums. My wife did sing along to the songs (she's into early HIM as well) and to be honest I really enjoyed it when I saw her enjoying the show.

It was quite a good performance by them and their musicianship seemed flawless n knowing that 40 pounds we forked out for the show really worth for the money spent as well once in a life time experience. We would never come to London again as we would never afford to come again..he he

The shows ended around 10 at night and just by the road they were selling Merchandise (official HIM's merchandise) we were just windowing (which we regretted later because we shud have at least buy the poster or tour tshirt) as we needed to catch up the train to Malaysia Hall hostel plus it was too cold to stay outside since it was only our second day there and we were still coping with such cold winter. We rushed to the Tottenham Court Road tube station and headed to Queensway tube station n walked to Bayswater with our telinga still bengang but yet with sheer satisfaction.

Next review would be Therion's 20th Anniversary live in London 4 days after. Behold

KRISIUN LIVE IN ADELAIDE 22 APRIL 2009

    By Lutfie
Review ni dah lama overdue sebab tak ada interest nak menulis, maklumlah full-time student. Anyway, KRISIUN(Brazil) with special guest DAWN OF AZAZEL(New Zealand) live in Light Square, Adelaide adalah gig yang aku pergi sebab dah lama gian nak 'hangguk-hangguk'. Krisiun adalah band yang aku minat sebab tight-ness live performance diorang dan intensity of brutal death metal yang dibawa oleh Krisiun yang totally mind-blasting since their beginning!. Gig ni sangat berbaloi dengan adanyaNew Zealand death metallers Dawn of Azazel yang before that aku tak berapa nak masuk bila layan studio album diorang, tapi this show had totally changed my perception.Dawn of Azazel fucking rip your head off!.
Anyway, this gig was held at the smallest venue I have ever been to, a pub with shortest stage (rendah sikit dari takat lutut aku), small crowd area, and low ceiling. I would say it is a ‘stuffed’ area. Aku sangat terkejut dengan penganjuran venue tersebut untuk band macam Krisiun, tapi when Adelaide crowd just gets out once a year, you can expect freakin’ poor turnout, hence explaining the size of venue.

Routine biasa aku pegi gig is beli tour shirt (Krisiun Southern Storm) dan hangout with some uni friends that came along. Nothing much I did but excitedly waited for the bands to start. Ada 2 local acts yang support this gig which were Tzun Tzu(old school brutal Japanese influenced death metal) and Closed Casket(metalcore).

Masa Closed Casket started off, aku tak expect much from a metalcore band, for the typical boring metalcore scream and breakdowns. Other than that, they had good showmanship like a lot of other Australian bands I have seen. Satu je benda yang aku kagun dengan band sini, showmanship yang terbaik, regardless the style.

Second band yang main was Tzun Tzu. A band of elites. Aku kenal Don(guitarist,ex-Martire) sebab selalu join dan deal for cds kat forum yang beliau participate. Old school death metal yang underground habis! Tapi elemen Japanese yang band ni cuba bawak mungkin tak berapa clear apa yang Japanese nya apart from intro, intermediate, and outro with Kitaro-like soundtracks. Good stuff nevertheless.

Next up was Dawn of Azazel. Aku first time tengok diorang ni dan tak expect much from them but I was totally wrong. Sungguh pun lagu-lagu diorang memang aku tak familiar, tapi vibe live diorang memang mengancam! Showmanship Rigel (bassist) was totally mad and the crowd really went crazy. Aku pun dah mula terangsang dengan ‘intensity’ of their performance dan headbanging tak beragak dekat depan stage (siap tupang kaki kat atas stage, hehe).Aku ter-warm up awal pulak throughout the whole Dawn of Azazel’s set. Antara focus lain aku masa diorang main adalah drummer, yang cukup kental, padat, laju, brutal!.Memang pakai trigger, tapi antara penggunaan trigger yang optimum bagi aku, especially with the speed. Dawn of Azazel adalah antara band New Zealand yang makin mantap representing the continents down under. Maybe next time, kalau diorang turun lagi, aku mesti tengok!

The mighty Krisiun was up next. Setup band agak simple.Pretty much like Dawn of Azazel’s setup. Alex dan comrades were very friendly and humble death metallers. Masih terngiang-ngiang di kepala aku diorang sangat appreciate crowd yang hadir malam tu, walaupun venue kecik, crowd tak besar tapi appreciation tu tak buat aku rasa Krisiun ni is a superior band(although in fact, they are). Throughout the set, performance Krisiun memang tip top, brutal, full-speed, loud, and reckless! Walaupun 3 piece band je, tapi vibe live tu memang brutal. Aku tak ingat setlist malam tu and I never even cared what would they present, tapi setiap lagu buat aku hangguk-hangguk macam gila. Dahlah masa Dawn of Azazel aku banging bagai nak gila, masa Krisiun pun rasa nak tercabut leher. Contact band dengan crowd sangat dekat dan ‘threatening’.

Berapa kali aku terpaksa sambut stand mike Alex yang asyik terjatuh sebab crowd depan stage mosh ganas (aku still melekat kat depan stage sampai set Krisiun). Ada satu lagu yang aku hafal liriknya; ‘She dies everytime she speaks my name’ yang aku sing along depan batang hidung Alex, dan Alex perasan aku terpekik-terlolong cuba sing along dengan beliau, dia kasi aku ‘fist punch’ setiap kali aku nyanyi line lirik tu.hahah.So cool. Selang beberapa lagu, Alex berterima kasih dgn crowd yang attend malam tu. ‘We really thank you all for coming out partying with us tonight, without all of you, we are fucking nothing!’ Lebih kurang macam tu lah Alex berterima kasih pada crowd.Very humble. Other than that, antara perkara yang aku paling kagum dengan Krisiun adalah stamina diorang masa main throughout the set. Lagu-lagu yang brutal dan laju make me conclude; bukan calang-calang orang boleh main sampai 12 lagu straight set, especially the drummer yang aku tengok paling focus out of all members.

All in all, it was a very worth gig that I have spent on. Probably, tahun ni kalau nak rankingkan best death metal show yang aku dah pergi tengok would be : 1.Krisiun 2.Suffocation(ni jadi tak best sebab aku dapat tengok half the set je, kalau full sure top Krisiun) 3.Dawn of Azazel. Good times.

P/S: Crappy pics sebab aku bawa kamera tapi lupa bawa bateri, ended up aku guna kamera phone je.Hence explaining the terrible quality of pictures.
